The Revolutionary War ended on October 17, 1781. This is the date the British commander Cornwallis surrendered. This was at the end of the Battle of Yorktown (see "Battles" page then "Battle of Yorktown")

After the War
 
       After the Revolutionary War the United States set up the Articles of Confederation. That didn't work so the United States set up the Constitution.
The United States eventually became one of the most powerful countries in the world.
